Do professional athletes make too much money, or do they deserve every penny? Why?
There are only 2 reasons why I would say they make too much. Reason number one is pure jealousy so we can toss that argument out. Reason 2 is more down to earth, and that is that it's a shame you earn more money playing games than teaching or doing something that directly improves your community and people around you. The thing I tell people is that athletes actually generate money for their franchises. the money they get paid I feel is often in proportion with what they bring in, but still the athletes themselves are not getting anywhere near as fat as the team owners and league VPs. If people hyped up the best teachers and paid extra to send their kids to certain schools as a result, we would see and increase in teacher salaries. As it stands only the money for that comes from a budget that could never match that of these billionaire team owners. I honestly feel I have gotten fair pay for the work I have done in my varied work history. Anyone who knows me, knows I am not driven by money. I do think it is fare that you be compensated for both the work you do and what you bring to whatever company you work for. If you work for a big Ad agency and land a multimillion dollar account, you would likely get a nice bonus off that and/or a raise outright. Sports are a business, so if Allen Iverson coming to your team increases ticket sales and merchandise sales, then he should be compensated accordingly. That is the American Capitalist way. The good and the bad.
