Old Sqool returns
First of all I will say it's good to be back and in a creative mood. I don't know if anybody will even read this since I've been away so long, but I am starting from here. So here goes the story......
I walked into Best Buy today because I needed to treat myself to some new music. Music always inspires me and sets the tone for me usually, and it unlocks my creative juices. Well I walk in and the skinny white dude with the blue polo shirt proceeds to ask me repeatedly how he can help me. finally I cave and tell him I was looking for the new.... "TI? Right over here", he interrupted. (Mind you I don't have anything against TI, but that's not where my mind was. I can listen to TI, but I don't know that I would buy his music.) So I thwarted his assumption and listened to him offer 2 more suggestions, which I replied in the negative (1 of which was Nelly), I just blurted it out.... "Man I need some real music. I was thinking that new Ice Cube!" He acted like I was speaking Portugese or something. Well I said nevermind and grabbed a copy and hit him with the 2 fingers spread and proceded to the register. As smug as I was and usually am in snubbing these modern day "artists", I was praying that Doughboy would not let me down. OH MY FRIGGIN GAWD he did not disappoint! If you have not bought, bootlegged or listened to Raw footage, do so now! This is that stuff. I suggested you listen through from beginning to end and listen... really listen to what Cube is saying. I have always been a fan of Cube, but to me he only really shined when he was at his angriest. This album is what I feel is his best amalgamation of all his anger, beliefs, political observations, and yes even faith and joy of life. the only song on the whole 19 tracks (and only 1 is not a full song) I sit on the fence with is the one with Young Jeezy "I Got My Locs On". Even that one is just really not my type of music, but for the people that make that type of music he is right on par with that genre so still a hit though it misses with me. I won't go into each track and can't post them since I'm on my work computer, but I will say if you like real creative and thought provoking music, get this! Ice Cube has done what I have been waiting for Rakim to come do for over 4 years now... Come put these beat jackers and rhyme recyclers on notice. so until Ra does his thang, remember "It tqkes a nation of Niggas to hold us back".... and anything that goes wrong, gangsta rap did it!
